Roadtrip South Africa // Part 1: Boulders Beach - feathered friends

Hello,

back in October, a dream of mine came true: together with my family I flew down to the other end of the world and did a road trip through beautiful South Africa.

Basically, every day was amazing, as I was able to see some of the worlds most beautiful beaches, unique landscapes, the big 5 and not to forget met some very heartwarming people.

This trip definitely left a lasting impression on me and since then, there is no day, I am not thinking of South Africa. I truly lost my heart to that country and I hope to return as soon as possible.

But first off, I am still trying to organize my thoughts and write about it on my blog.

There will be a little series with posts about our road trip and this is gonna be the first part, which starts in Cape Town or to be precisely at the Cape Peninsula.

Cape Town and it´s surrounding area surely has no lack of activities to do for tourists and one of them is the Boulders Beach. It is a popular tourist stop because of a colony of African penguins which settled there in 1982.

Besides the obvious, that the penguins are simply super cute, I am still amazed at the fact that there are penguins living in such a hot place like South Africa.
Somehow, in my personal thinking, penguins still only use to live in cold places.
Luckily, I was able to proof myself wrong and see it with my own eyes that there are indeed hundreds of these animals happily swimming and waddling at the beaches of South Africa.

As soon as we arrived the pathway down to the Boulders Beach, I got excited to see penguins living in there natural habitat for the first time. Eventually, from that moment onwards where I had spotted the first penguin, I fell in love with them immediately.

Some of them were still wearing there fluffy winter coat, which made them even more adorable. Besides that, I was amazed by how relaxed they seemed, although there were many tourists pretty close to them. Seemingly, the Penguins didn´t get disturbed of that and rather lay down at the stones or the sand. However, some others there actually quite active. They took a bath in the ocean and I was surprised how fast they could get while swimming.

Even though I have liked penguins already before I have to say, that since that visit at the famous Boulders Beach, I love them even more. It was just fascinating to observe their behaviour. I could have literally sat there for hours without getting bored while watching them.

Later on our Trip through South Africa, we have visited another penguin colony.
Not sure, how that place was called. However, although this place was less touristic and nice, too, I still prefer the Boulders Beach. The location is stunning. Not that far away from the vibrant Cape Town and then the turquoise water and light shining beach.
Definitely worth a visit!
